FAQS

This is the section where your questions get answered. If you have any questions about the sport of BikeTrial, please send me an email at trialsport@pacific.net.sg, and I'll post the answers here.

Meanwhile, below are some questions that some of you have asked in the past.

(Q) Why do we need to wear high-cut shoes unlike riders from other countries?

(A) Rules and Regulations mainly conform to BIU Technical World Championship Guide and also can be ammended to suit each country's need. Ankle-protective shoes are for safety measure and this rule is also on the BIU rules. (Please see rule book Art.18 Riders Clothes.) The reason Singapore uses this rule is that we are not allowing outside influences to deter the origins of the BikeTrial Sport. An example to look at is that USA was banned from the BIU events for 2 years because they strayed from the origins. Please note that once you stray, then what you are doing cannot be recogised as the original name i.e. BikeTrial.

(Q) Other than Monty Shoes, can we wear any other shoes?

(A) Yes, provided it is high cut. The Rules state clearly that high cut ankle-protective shoes will be allowed. Even Ot Pi uses Adidas high cut shoes.

(Q) I have applied for my SACA licence during the competition, why have I not received my card after so long?

(A) SACA has undergone some management changes and with a new Committee, the processing has become faster and more efficient. We have also stepped in to assist SACA in the area of Administration.

(Q) Besides BikeTrial, what else can I do with SACA licence?

(A) You can join any races organized by SACA, including Downhill, Duel Slalom, Cross-country, road-racing etc.

(Q) I wish to be in the Singapore National Team, how do I go about doing it?

(A) The top 10 riders in the Expert class have already been recognised as the National Team riders. It's just a matter of how much funds or support the Sports Council has or wants to allocate to us. We must understand that we are not the only Sports body that need some sort of help. And in the eyes of the Singapore Sports Council, we are a new sport.

(Q) I have heard that there is going to be a Trial Park in Singapore, is this true?

(A) Many a time in the past, there were trial parks in the making. But due to lack of dedication from the individuals, all efforts were shelved. However, Organisations like National Parks Board has allocated places like in Pulau Ubin, Bukit Timah and Sentosa Island for the Trial riders to use.

(Q) Why are circulars and information given out late?

(A) We would like to call for volunteers to help circulate forms to areas if possible, as BikeTrial Singapore is short of volunteers and manpower. Please remember that this organization has developed a lot faster than most other organization due to sheer dedication for the sport, however we could better it if there were more volunteers.

(Q) Can we have a training school taught by a foreign talent?

(A) Yes, but we need committed and supportive riders who are willing to bear part of the cost if there is no sponsors involved.

(Q) How can we get sponsors for cash prizes?

(A) Time, effort and dedication. It is a long tedious process that doesn't stop.

(Q) Why are top riders using black wall tires?

(A) They use black wall tires due to the 2 reasons.

1) Many countries do not have skin wall tires readily available.

2) Black wall tires tend to be less prone to snake bites, but are heavier. Skin wall tires are lighter, but both the tires have the same traction.
